The Tackle Hunger program was formed to distribute food to families in need. 1 in 7 Americans struggle with hunger, 48 million people and 15 million are children. Due to hurricane Ike in 2008, Tackle Hunger was started and has become an important part of The Amobi Okoye Foundation, Inc. Over 6,000 families where served and hundreds of kids where reached since 2008.
To do this, we work closely with caring corporate partners that donate surplus food and other supplies, as well as with individual donors who help defray the cost of transporting the product donations. Over 100 bins are placed around Houston, TX, Huntsville, AL & Louisville, KY for months collecting nonperishable foods and canned goods. The supplies and bins are then distributed through our extensive network of feeding centers, homeless shelters, churches and various other organizations located in communities across are market area. Groups can also sponsor a food distribution drive, during which boxes are given directly to families in need. Additionally, we host an annual “Tackle Hunger” dinner, feeding, encouraging and playing with over 100 kids from programs in the inner city Houston.
